The Mudroom
Mudrooms have become an integral part of the home. Even though it’s not a room we spend huge amounts of time in, it’s a space that can make or break your day if it’s not organized. Here are our top tips on designing a mudroom that is purposeful & functional.
Tip No. 1
Use a combination of
open & closed storage

Open areas with hooks are perfect for everyday coats and bags. If I’ve said it once, then I’ve said it a million times: kids will not put things on hangers! But you don’t want everything open or you’re creating a scene for clutter. Closed storage is great for garments not worn everyday or
out of season items.
Tip No. 2
Seating is important

Make sure there’s a spot to put shoes on, either a built-in bench or a small piece of furniture will work.
Tip No. 3
Use durable flooring

You don’t want flooring that you are worried about getting mud on or scratching up. Porcelain tile with some colour variation is a no-brainer – easy to maintain & hides dirt.
Tip No. 4
Add a mirror

Having a mirror for last minute checks before you rush out the door is crucial! In addition to checking your appearance, a mirror can instantly brighten up the space by reflecting any available light source making your room feel larger and airier. And lastly, a mirror in your mudroom can serve as a design statement, adding elegance and style to the overall space.
Tip No. 5
Incorporate a utility cabinet

if you can spare the space, the mudroom is a great place to keep the brooms, vacuum & other cleaning supplies.
