Outdoor Spaces
Although we’ve recently been hit with another cold snap, it’s time to start thinking about our outdoor spaces! Here are some of our favourite new items on the market, and some tips to guide your design.
Brown is the new black! 2024 brings the strong presence of cream, brown and neutral colors to your outdoor décor. Gone away is the emphasis on grey. We’ll be seeing more earthy tones, playing off the Scandinavian décor trend that reigns so popular in interior design. High Point furniture Market - one of the top showcases of new and upcoming furniture and décor was inundated with neutral and brown accents in the fall of 2023, and the spring market is sure to continue in this direction.
Friendly Shapes. We’re seeing a lot of curvature in furniture for the upcoming season. Rounded edges, organic shapes, oblong and oval tables are front and centre.
Teak, aluminum, and twisted rope everywhere. Lightweight aluminum is definitely a front runner in outdoor furniture design. Lightweight, strong and easy to clean - it allows the owner the ability to easily move around pieces to accommodate different entertaining situations and formations.
Teak is a strong and durable wood, weather resistant due to its high oil content and tight grain.
The Viggo Lounge chair - in RH’s 2024 outdoor collection is offered in both teak wood and weather resistant aluminum.
We’re seeing many new collections featuring rope accents in their designs - adding a nautical nod to the piece, offering durability and an aesthetic vertical accent.
Friendly and Accessible outdoor lighting - not so much a trend, but advancements in LED and outdoor lighting continue to improve, presenting clever, safe and amusing ways to incorporate light into your outdoor space.
Modular Design - Whether it’s seating, a small movable ottoman or accent table, or a full kitchen; modular design is everywhere. We especially like Crate & Barrel’s modular kitchen pieces as seen below.
