Elaborate Closet Design

With more and more custom closet design requests recently, we thought we’d share our deep dive of findings into the world of elaborate closet design. From unique material choices, advanced organizational items, to beautiful finishes and décor - here are some of our favourite designs and trends we love to showcase in this very important room.

We love incorporating custom hair and make up stations within master closets. It’s the perfect way to blending practicality with elegance. These vanities not only enhance your daily routine but also add a touch of glamour to your home. Here are some of our favourites. Seating, storage, mirrors, and good lighting are all essential. This is also the pefect place to incorporate some décor pieces to add personality to the space.

Another feature that is a must in an elaborate closet design is advanced organizational systems. Having a place for everything is the first step in keeping your closet organized, no matter what size the room is. Examples below: pull out pant, belt and tie storage; valet rods to hang and plan outfits; velvet lined drawers for jewelry and special pieces; vertically built (and lockable) storage for watches, glasses and accessories; and custom sized floor to ceiling shelving (from our own Crescent Heights project) that makes use of all available space.

The laundering and prep of your clothing can be made easier by a custom built in ironing board; built in, cotton lined laundry hampers; and even a built in thermostatically controlled drying cupboard for your delicate items.

And of course, shoes! Specialized shoe storage is a must in any custom closet.

Task and decorative lighting in a closet play a crucial role in enhancing both functionality and aesthetics. Proper lighting ensures that every item in the closet is easily visible, making it easier to find and select clothing and accessories. Task lighting, such as LED strip lights or recessed fixtures, focuses on specific areas, illuminating the contents of shelves, drawers and garment racks. This targeted approach reduces shadows and enhances overall visibility, improving the efficiency of daily routines.

In contrast, decorative lighting adds an element of style to the closet space. Fixtures such as pendant lights or decorative sconces can transform a standard closet into an inviting and visually appealing area. This type of lighting creates a pleasant atmosphere, making the closet a more enjoyable space to navigate.

Lastly, we love incorporating unique materials, millwork design details and wall treatments like colour drenching and wallpaper use in closet design. It can transform a utilitarian space into a visually striking and functional retreat.

By thoughtfully selecting a functional layout, organizational systems, thoughtful lighting plans, and decorative accents, closet design can evolve into a personal sanctuary that exceeds mere storage needs. Balancing aesthetics with functionality ensures that the closet remains a practical space while reflecting individual style.
