Helpful Tips When Designing an Ensuite
Lighting
Layered Lighting: A mix of ambient, task, and accent lighting is crucial. Bright, direct lighting is necessary around mirrors and vanities for grooming tasks. Ambient lighting (like recessed ceiling lights) helps create an inviting atmosphere. Accent lighting (e.g., wall sconces) adds warmth and ambiance.
Natural Light: If possible, allow natural light into the ensuite. Skylights or frosted windows work wonders for creating a bright, airy feel, making the space feel larger and more inviting
Space Planning and Layout
Flow: Even though ensuites are smaller, a well-planned layout can make a big difference. Avoid clutter and create easy pathways from the bedroom to the bathroom. Think about the placement of key elements like the shower, vanity, and toilet to ensure there’s enough space for comfortable movement.
Zoning: Create distinct zones for showering, vanity, and toilet areas. This makes the ensuite feel less cramped and more organized. Consider a glass shower partition or frosted glass for a sleek, modern touch that still maintains privacy.
Go Vertical for Storage If space is tight, use wall-mounted shelves, tall cabinets, or vertical storage solutions to maximize every inch of the room.
Here we’ve tucked the washer and dryer along with vertical storage into the ensuite - that when not in use, can cleanly be hidden behind closed doors.
Textures
Mixing textures adds visual interest. For example, a sleek, modern vanity with a warm wood texture can make the space feel cozy and sophisticated. Matte or textured finishes on tiles and fixtures can create the desired effect based on the overall design style (modern, minimalist, rustic, etc.).
Consider the View
Ensure that the view from the ensuite is pleasant, whether it's from a window or through a partition. A bathroom with a view of nature or a calming private space is highly desirable. (see below)
