Ethical & Sustainable Canadian Companies
This month we’re featuring some of our favourite Canadian companies featuring both beautiful design with sustainable and ethical business processes.
Fable
“Fable is motivated by a common vision to create products that
are as enjoyable as they are ethical.”
We love the simplicity and timeless trend-surpassing designs created by the artisans at Fable. Not only is their premium dinnerware line beautiful, the company itself prides itself on its sustainability and ethical operation. Fable is dedicated to become a zero-waste company. They work only with artisans that are environmentally conscious, use recycled clay and eco-friendly packaging.
Ardent Earth
Ardent Earth is an Ontario based company that offers a selection of hand-picked eco-friendly products that support zero-waste living. They also offer upcycled items to save materials that would otherwise end up in a landfill.
“low waste, plant based: sustainable vegan goods for home and body”
We especially love their organic vegan food wraps and zero-waste cleaning products. This online shop takes the worry and stress out of choosing eco-smart products.
EMMYDEVEAUX
We love nothing more than good design, and that extends of course to wardrobe. This Kelowna/Edmonton based fashion brand exudes beautiful design while holding strong to ethical and sustainable values.
EMMYDEVEAUX focuses sustainable production by implementing their “Fundit” process where their products are essentially crowdfunded and presold before production. This ensures inventory is kept to a minimum and reduces fabric waste.
In addition, they employ a buy back program for their pre-owned pieces. Customers can return their pre-loved pieces and receive a gift card in return. The items are either re-sold or recycled, reducing the impact to the landfill.
Obakki
Obakki is a Vancouver based company that connects “world-class makers” with a global market. The company is focused on supporting those makers, creating financial stability and giving back to the community of their family of artisans. Items are produced with traditional methods with local materials, in small batches, ensuring environmental protection as well as artisan wellbeing.
The Obakki Foundation fosters education, clean water, agriculture economic initiatives, artisan programs + more.
Huppé
Huppé is a Quebec-based furniture brand offering contemporary, high-end designs rivaling those found throughout the world. Along with their outstanding design collaborations they are committed to sustainability and leaving a positive environmental impact.
“Huppé is furniture inspired by the very best materials, lovingly made and assembled
in Canada. Nothing more, nothing less.”
Huppé has invested in their production facilities reducing their natural gas consumption by 75%. They have also partnered with Trees for Canada, and continue to plant one tree for each bed sold; an investment of over $10,000 for re-forestation in Canada.
